The VASCage Data Science Team has achieved remarkable success at this year’s Euregio Innovation Award, securing two prestigious recognitions. Out of 25 competing companies, the team’s development of AI-generated 3D image data for medical applications earned 4th place.

Karl Fritscher, the head of this dynamic and innovative data science team, presented the project to an engaged and enthusiastic audience.

AI-Generated 3D Image Data for Medical Applications

Customised training isn’t just for athletes; it’s also crucial for artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. For example, a diagnostic AI designed to detect tiny strokes needs to be trained on vast amounts of image data. However, acquiring comprehensive medical image datasets for AI training can be challenging, often being expensive, incomplete, or difficult to obtain. This limitation hinders innovation in this critical field.

VASCage offers a groundbreaking solution by developing synthetic image datasets on demand. These datasets are indistinguishable from real patient data, enabling AI algorithms to be perfectly trained for real-world applications. This approach is set to accelerate innovation in diagnostics, making them faster, more cost-effective, and more reliable.

Young investigator award for VASCage mathematician

In addition to the team’s success, VASCage researcher Nadja Gruber achieved 3rd place in the Young Investigator Award for her AI-based brain analysis tool, developed during her PhD at VASCage. This deep learning algorithm, published in the journal Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, has already been integrated into clinical workflows, supporting diagnosis and treatment. The tool provides user-friendly interfaces, empowering clinicians to make precise decisions and ultimately improving patient outcomes.
