Clinical stroke research for a long and healthy life

Life expectancy is continuously increasing. Unfortunately, the extension of life expectancy cannot keep pace with this rapid development. Age-related morbidity and disability due to stroke will pose ever greater challenges for the public and healthcare systems. According to estimates by the World Stroke Organisation, the global economic cost of stroke will amount to US$ 1 trillion by 2030. With our ambitious scientific programme and comprehensive knowledge transfer, we strive to improve public health and reduce public expenditure.

Translational stroke research for the benefit of patients

Stroke is a devastating disease and a leading cause of disability and death. 1 in 4 adults will suffer a stroke in their lifetime while the number of strokes worldwide is still on the rise. While coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction are well within the mainstream of clinical research, stroke is not. VASCage is filling in this gap. With our strong scientific and industrial partners, we bring cutting-edge science to the patients.

From science to practical application

For the benefit of society and patients, VASCage bridges the gap between two worlds that are all too often separated: academia and industry.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
On the one hand, VASCage is a research centre acting within a broad range of competitive national and international programmes. VASCage uniquely maps the entire clinical stroke pathway from prevention, diagnosis, therapy, evidence-based rehabilitation to recovery. A particular strength of VASCage research is the combination of experimental and epidemiological excellence.
BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

On the other hand, VASCage is a research company with highly qualified multidisciplinary scientific staff that offers clinical trials, MDR consulting for clinical investigations and data science services. Our customers benefit from the accumulated expertise of the research centre’s cooperative network and its top scientists, the broad access to patients and patient databases and VASCage’s own biobank.

We are the one point of contact for applied clinical stroke research.

Any vision and ambition is only as good as its implementation. Tailor-made business cooperations and scientific partnerships are our key to success.

We are your expert in Data Sciences
Our team of mathematicians, computer scientists and clinicians suppport our customers in medical image processing and analysis. Our expertise and experience in machine learning, including deep learning, enables us to provide fast, efficient and objective assessment of large image data sets.

Customer information data sciences

We are experts in reconstruction of accelerated MR images

Full MRI measurements are associated with long acquisition times. These are burdensome for patients and inefficent for clinicians. VASCage offers AI-based methods that enable fast and reliable image reconstruction. We employ uncertainty estimation methods to assess the reliability and certainty of our model’s predictions.
Clinicians, device manufacturers and software developers profit from

  • acceleration of scan times
  • increased time-efficiency of imaging
  • reduction of motion-related artefacts
  • improved patient compliance
  • automated quality assessment

In the realm of medical imaging, accurate segmentation of very small structures is paramount for identifying intricate anatomical features and subtle pathological anomalies. However, obtaining precise labels and extensive datasets can be challenging, underscoring the importance of automated methods that require fewer data. At VASCage, we blend traditional image processing techniques with deep learning to enhance image segmentation efficiency.

The particular strengths of our automated segmentation processes are
  • Enhanced objectivity in volumetric analysis
  • Decreased need for extensive training data
Clinicians, device manufacturers and software developers profit from
  • Unprecedented precision in diagnoses and personalized treatment planning
  • Reduced time requirements
  • Facilitation of rapid large-scale studies
We are experts in generating synthetic images for your AI application

Artificial intelligence enables the automated analysis of large quantities of 2D and 3D medical images such as MRI or CT scans. It offers immense potential for increasing efficiency in diagnosis and predictive assessment. However, the development of AI algorithms in the medical field is severely hampered by a lack of comprehensive and representative training data sets. This is especially true for commercial use due to data protection and privacy restrictions. VASCage has developed an AI-based solution to tackle these challenges.
The particular strengths of our generative AI solutions are the

  • development and validation of image analysis algorithms
  • augmentation of small or biased image data sets with synthetic data
  • generation of artificial images parametrised according to customer requirements

Our unique capabilities enable medical tech companies, research institutions and clinicians to

  • speed up and increase cost-efficiency in data collection
  • achieve immense time-to-market reduction
  • facilitate commercialisation  without processing sensitive data
We are experts in developing models for predicting diseases, risk for diseases or treatment outcomes

Predictive Modelling in medicine is a rapidly evolving field with the potential to improve clinical practice, personalize patient care, and optimize health outcomes. Combining expertise in data science and medicine, we at VASCage develop innovative solutions that have the potential to fundamentally change the way we understand, predict, and treat diseases.

Our expertise

Our team of highly skilled scientists and professionals has extensive experience in applying advanced statistical models, machine learning techniques, and analytical methods to complex medical data. We develop models that are able to make accurate predictions about disease risks, treatment outcomes, and patient trajectories.

Our solutions

For our customers in clinical research, clinical device manufacturing and software development, we provide solutions particularly for

  • Risk prediction: Predicting the risk of the development of certain diseases or medical complications in patients based on their individual health characteristics and medical history
  • Early detection of diseases: Identifying individuals at an increased risk for certain diseases or heath conditions to take preventive measures early and reduce the burden of illness
  • Treatment decisions: Assisting physicians in selecting the most appropriate treatment options for patients based on model predictions regarding the effectiveness of certain therapies or their potential side effects

Our Team

VASCage develops innovative products, therapies and technologies and implements them into routine patient care. We have assembled a strong team of experienced academic partners and research-oriented companies with complementary expertise in the fields of stroke medicine.

Our Values

VASCage supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to improve health and education, reduce inequality and promote economic growth. Our VASCage vision to extend the healthy lifespan is perfectly aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Company folder

Life expectancy is rising continuously. Unfortunately, the years gained are often dominated by declines in physical and mental capacities: On average, everybody lives in disability for 15 years! The forecasted burden caused by devastating diseases such as stroke is alarming. We believe that controlling vascular ageing holds the key to healthy ageing! This firm conviction is the rationale behind VASCage.

Equality, diversity and inclusion at VASCage

Equal participation of women and men in all social processes has not yet been achieved. Across Europe, women are still significantly underrepresented in research and innovation, especially in leading positions. VASCage sees equality and diversity as a key concern to ensure research and innovation at the highest level and to recruit and retain the best minds in our company.

Cooperation with science and industry

VASCage develops innovative products, therapies and technologies and implements them into routine patient care. We have assembled a strong team of experienced academic partners and research-oriented companies with complementary expertise in the fields of stroke medicine. Our focus is on technological advances and clinical translation hand in hand with our company partners.
